Questions
– Have you always wanted to be a writer?
Yes. I started writing when I was a very young. I may have put it down in between the chaos and turmoil flowing in and our of my life, but I have always, always been drawn back to it like a magnet. I’ve always loved writing.
– Do you ever get writer’s block? Or fatigue?
YES. I am almost always tired when I sit down to write because I often cease the moments to write when my child is in bed—so I’m either up really early or up really late. I’ve discovered if I wait for the right moment to write, I would never write anything. I just keep pushing to write through those times. The most frustrating thing for me and slows me down right now more than anything, while exhausting at the same time, is not having the best tools to write with at home when I am writing. My computer is ancient and I wait to go over to someone else house at their convenience, with their limitations, even if it doesn’t mesh with my needs to “borrow” their computer for the publishing part especially. My computer just isn’t equipped with the best tools I need to do the job.
I have updated to the max ++ and some. But, ...I am determined.
– When you get writer’s block? Or fatigue? How do you overcome these obstacles?
Some things I’ve found that really helps me clear my mind and gives the greatest inspiration are: #1 my music, #2 taking a break from my work (for a few minutes, hours or days, whatever I need), #3 Doing something completely different, #4 going out to a different setting, and #5 hanging out with my kids or with friends. If I tell myself I’m not going to write I can’t write for a while, then it’s not long before I’m anxious to write! Many times I am awakened with urgency to write whatever came to me in that moment. I always keep a notebook and pen on my bedside table.
– What is your inspiration for writing MindCRAFT?
The inspiration for MindCRAFT comes from a lot of places. The real catalyst that compelled me was not only my own life experiences alone. It was from seeing so much within the broken systems within the special needs and foster care worlds with so many other children and people suffering, and our social systems so broken. My greatest inspiration came from all of the personal searching for a way to help others in need, and no answers could be found. I am purpose driven and I believe I’m one of the very few select lucky people in this world who has revealed and knows what my God given purpose is.
– How long did it take you to write MindCRAFT?
Give and take , with all of the research involved, a little over six years.
